Minecraft lets us create worlds together
Markus "Notch" Persson creates Minecraft in 2009. It's a block building adventure that takes over the world.
The game has several modes, where the "creative" mode is focused on discovery and building in a lego-like workd. But you can also play together with others on servers, many open to anyone in the world.
The focus in other game modes are to gather resources enough to survive, such as coal, iron ore, lumber, eggs and milk. You need tools to do this, and you'll have to craft them yourself. And if you meet a hostile creature you need to fight it to keep playing.
Minecraft is mainly known for enabling players to become creative, to build worlds, houses, and artwork. Something that makes the game popular all over the world, with kids and adults alike. Using the online worlds you can play together with friends and other people all around the world and show them what you can create.
In 2011 the game is released in an official version, online only, and it has since been played by millions all over the world. In 2014 Minecraft is sold to Microsoft for 2.5 billion dollars, and Markus Persson becomes one of Sweden's richest people.
