Peter Löthberg builds the world's fastest internet in his mom's house
In 2007 Peter Löthberg builds the world's fastest internet in his mother's house. 40 Gbps, thousands of times faster than an average modem.
Peter Löthberg is one of the main characters from Swedish internet history and is regarded as one of the world's premier internet architects. Among other things he is behind Sweden's early choice of TCP/IP and helps build computer network SUNET, connecting Swedish universities.
His interest in computers and IT starts in the 1970's in his parents' carage where Löthberg as a child builds his own computers. In 2007 he wants to show what can be done with modern fiber technology, and together with Karlstad's city network he builds the world's fastest internet in that same garage. He spends five years building a giant modem.
His mom Sigbritt didn't even have the internet in her home before, but now her, her house and the giant modem in the garage are in the Guiness book of world records.
Later Peter Löthberg downgrades the connection to save on electricity - down to "just" 10 Gbps.
